HONESTY & TRANSPARENCY

PURITI PURE MANUKA HONEY - PHILOSOPHY & ETHOS

We believe that PURITI Manuka honey must be the very best in every aspect and the same quality should be available to all consumers, no matter where they are in the world.

We want to eliminate confusion surrounding Manuka honey grading systems and standards. Not only should the consumer know what the different grades mean and represent but they should also understand the legal standards, what they are and where they are applicable.

It is clear that many consumers are unaware that the MPI Manuka Honey Science Definition (legal testing standard) only applies to exported jars, and is not a requirement for the New Zealand domestic market.

Most international consumers are also unaware that bulk barrels of Manuka Honey can be exported and packed overseas without any mandatory or legal requirement to meet the MPI Science Definition. Theoretically, this allows bulk honey to be packed offshore outside of New Zealand where quality regulation, standards and labelling rules may vary dramatically, therefore, resulting in a lower quality product.

The consumer must be given the full picture, the whole truth and all the information required to make an informed choice. We need to be comfortable whether you choose PURITI or not, your choice has been an informed one.

A lesser product does not mean a bad product, it just isn’t at PURITI Manuka quality.

Our Honesty Grading Table For UMF Manuka Honey

UMF and MGO are the two globally recognised and accepted Manuka honey grading systems. To prevent customer confusion, PURITI jars are labelled clearly and accurately with both UMF and MGO grading standards.

PURITI MGO levels are significantly higher than the UMF minimum requirement and apply to all products sold within New Zealand and not just for exported products.

Puriti Honey Testing Standards

Although the MPI Science Definition does not apply to Manuka sold within New Zealand, PURITI has voluntarily adopted test standards at a level of 10% - 100% higher than the export standard. We make all our Manuka honey to this standard (not just our export honey).

Puriti Testing Standards Puriti Testing Standards

PURITI products are also tested for Glyphosate contamination. Glyphosate is an extensively used herbicide that is used on farms, gardens, streets, and parks. There is growing evidence that it can cause health-related issues and is carcinogenic. Because Glyphosate is so widely used, and its residue can be found in some foods, PURITI has decided to have a zero tolerance policy for it being present.

You can be assured that PURITI Manuka honey contains no Glyphosate residue. We want you to experience all the Manuka health benefits, antibacterial properties and other unique properties without any added health risks.

The Manuka Honey Industry

  • So, why all the smoke and mirrors that surrounds Manuka honey?
  • Why the confusion around Manuka honey grading systems and legislative standards?
  • Why the lack of transparency around Manuka honey testing and quality requirements?

Lots of questions for such a rare, natural, beautiful and simple product.

We shall start with some clarity around the complexity of Manuka honey...

Manuka Honey Production

The global production of all honey types is about 2 million tonnes per year. Annual production of genuine New Zealand Manuka honey is approximately 4000 tonnes. Even if New Zealand Manuka honey production could double it would still remain the rarest commercially harvested honey on the planet.

  • The vagaries of the New Zealand weather has a dramatic effect on the quality and quantity of production for Manuka honey.
  • Add the growing demand from the medical industry for medical grade Manuka honey in surgical and advanced wound care dressings.
  • Now add the demands from the dermatological field for skin treatments for the use of Manuka honey. Then there is the growing demand for Manuka honey as an active ingredient in high value premium skin care.
  • The equestrian and horse racing fraternity are using  Manuka honey as a superfood.
  • Even the veterinary world is clambering for it, and we haven’t even got to human food or nutrition or energy and natural health supplementary products yet.

At this point, it is easy to see why 4000 tonnes of genuine Manuka honey is not very much at all.

SMOKE & MIRRORS IN THE MANUKA HONEY INDUSTRY

With all these factors combined and the ever-growing global demand for Manuka honey, it is easy to see why some producers and manufacturers might enjoy the confusion that comes with Manuka honey.

There has been a tendency to try and stretch the 4000 tonnes of the production of Manuka honey as far as possible. If the previous tests for Methylglyoxal were passed, then all was good, all was ok. When there is a lack of regulation, then the outcomes are obvious. Manuka honey purity is defined by far more than the sum of methylglyoxal, UMF or MGO or any of the many grades proliferating the global market.

Labelling criteria and legal requirements are different outside of New Zealand. For instance, genuine New Zealand Manuka honey tested and packed in New Zealand cannot use words such as Antibacterial, Antibiotic, Activity, Healthy, Medicinal, Medical or Active on the label to describe the product.

In summary and as your absolute number one, bare minimum safeguard and guide to excellence when you are buying Manuka honey outside of New Zealand, make sure that the Manuka honey was harvested, tested, certified and packed in New Zealand.

Remember made in New Zealand or produced in New Zealand does not always mean it was packed in New Zealand. It just means the bulk Manuka honey came from New Zealand. Therefore the packing, labelling, testing and purity regulations may not have met the same strict standard.

Purity and authenticity have been hard to monitor with the lack of an international standard. There were loop holes and advantages have been taken. Inconstant quality has gone some way towards giving the Maunka industry a less than perfect reputation.

The team behind PURITI believe you shouldn’t have to be part of NASA or an Oxford graduate or a member of MENSA to have confidence in what you are buying. Genuine New Zealand Manuka honey is expensive enough without you having to worry about the authenticity of the product.

PURITI Manuka honey defines genuine, defines quality and defines authenticity.

Our higher testing is on the label. We want you to know what you are buying. At PURITI we define higher standards and everything we do is underpinned by honesty, integrity and transparency.

PURITI - COUNTERFEIT PROOF HONEY PRODUCTION

The very best must be protected to ensure that the consumer receives the genuine article and the very best in Manuka honey.

With ‘PURITI’ Manuka honey, everything we do has a purpose and reason. We constantly look to improve, challenge convention and challenge the status quo. This is why PURITI Manuka honey is the only brand to have both UMF and MGO certifications clearly shown on all labelling and packaging. It is also the reason why we have raised Government testing and regulation to a new level, providing you the highest quality of Manuka honey - A quality level that no other company yet complies to.

We are determined to protect and enhance the pinnacle position of New Zealand Manuka honey, to promote its inherent rarity and unrivalled quality.

We also created multiple levels of security to defend against counterfeit, fake and adulteration that is prevalent within the Manuka honey industry.

We refused to use the typical ‘off the shelf’ honey jar design favoured and used by most Manuka honey producers. We designed and produced our own PURITI jar.

We over-engineered complexity into a simple packaging shape and threw the kitchen sink at the label design elements. The harder and more expensive it is to copy the more likely it will fail or not be attempted at all.

Product Protection & Security

Every jar of ‘PURITI’ is packed at one source and protected by at least 11 separate anti-counterfeit security measures.

Puriti Protection and Security

That’s not all...

Simple and perfectly clear and easy to read. A comparison made obvious. No other Manuka honey brand offers more clarity than PURITI.
